Thanks to the hard work and dedication of our entire team, it was another year of pioneering firsts and notable milestones for the Oregon Convention Center. There are new solar panels on our roof and a world-class hotel in the works. We provided innovative solutions for convention organizers, even building an Olympic-class stadium within our walls. And we generated more revenue than ever, to the economic benefit of the entire region.
Advancing our commitment to sustainability, we installed more than 6,500 solar panels on our roof. Their emissions-free energy will help us reach our goal of becoming the world’s greenest events facility.
As host of the IAAF World Indoor Track and Field Championships in March, we provided technical solutions for a live worldwide TV broadcast and a visitor experience that included a 7,000-seat stadium. It was the first time in almost 30 years the event was held in the U.S., and we’re proud of our work to make it a success.
Looking ahead, we will continue to advance the vision of a hotel at the convention center. The new Hyatt Regency Portland, expected to open in 2019, will generate hundreds of permanent jobs and millions in new tourism spending at businesses across the region.
