The Oregon Convention Center is proud to announce that sales manager Lisa Chan has been named 2017-2018 Supplier of the Year by the Oregon Chapter of Meeting Professionals International (MPI).
MPI is the largest meeting and event industry association in the world. Founded in 1972, MPI provides education, networking opportunities and business exchanges for meeting and event professionals, and acts as a prominent voice for the promotion and growth of the meetings industry. MPI is a global community of more than 60,000 members with over 90 chapters and clubs in 19 countries.
The Supplier of the Year Award is a peer-recognized award, given to a meetings industry supplier for their outstanding association contributions, leadership, and professionalism. It recognizes suppliers who have demonstrated their commitment and support of MPI Oregon, the meetings industry, and their community.
Lisa says she truly values the educational and partnership opportunities that MPI membership provides. Many of her clients are fellow MPI members and she believes the different perspectives and experiences they've shared helped all of them to develop and implement multiple best industry practices during their careers.
“It is an amazing honor to receive this recognition from my peers knowing the particular caliber that they themselves represent in this remarkable industry,” says Lisa. “Meeting Professionals International—and especially my local chapter, MPI Oregon—continues to inspire and encourage so many of my professional and personal accomplishments.”
The award represents a great achievement and provides some well-deserved recognition for Lisa’s longstanding dedication to MPI. She has been a member of MPI for 25+ years and has held many leadership positions within the Oregon Chapter, serving both on its Board of Directors and, from 2004-2005, as Chapter President. Among her contributions was the establishment of MPI-OC’s Community Outreach Committee, where she served as Chair and led participation in numerous community engagement and service projects.
Her committed efforts have also helped the Oregon Convention Center secure MPI Oregon’s Silver Platter Award in each of the last two years. This award is presented to the meeting facility where a MPI Oregon monthly program was held that received the highest evaluation scores for catering service, presentation, audio visual, menu selection, food quality, décor creativity, program enhancement, and entertainment.
This year also marks Lisa’s 27th anniversary with the Oregon Convention Center. Counted among her career accomplishments is a Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) credential from the Events Industry Council (EIC), which she has maintained since 2000. She is widely regarded as one of the hardest working and most experienced sales managers in the OCC Sales and Marketing department.
“Lisa’s reputation for excellence, dedication to her clients, and her professional relationships through membership in MPI are some of the reasons that the Oregon Convention Center is so successful,” says Matt Pizzuti, the center’s deputy director.
“I can’t think of a more deserving recipient of the Supplier of the Year Award,” adds OCC director of sales Cindy Wallace. “Lisa has served MPI in so many capacities and continues to support its leadership and goals. She is the consummate professional and proves every day what a difference one individual can make in a large organization.”
